In many parts of the northern hemisphere people are preparing to take summer holidays. We switch off from work and try not to think about the big challenges facing our world. But maybe we should keep our brains a little bit active and refresh our knowledge about the facts and figures of the one resource many of us enjoy during our vacations: water!
UN-Water, an agency we work with closely, has put together some good information about water resources. If you go to this page on their site you’ll find links to one-page summaries about different aspects of water use. I’ve just printed them off – not environmentally-friendly, I know – but I promise to read them on my break and keep them on my desk afterward.
If you want to exercise your brain even more, you can jump into the more complex and controversial subject of water footprints. I’m sure there are a plethora of sites, but here’s the Water Footprint Network with their pages on the water footprints of different products and national water footprints. Happy reading!
